Honestly I’ve not been an ardent reader of books, I’ve always been lazy to complete any book. I’ve owned some of the world’s best selling books but have only flipped through a few pages and put back on my shelf. Am happy to say Harvest Institute has done me great, my reading skills have be rejuvenated this year 2020 and i intend never to look back. Below are my best books;
The Bible; Like Ps Alex taught, its an Inspired book written by holy men. This book speaks to me and guides me on a daily. Its the first thing i think of in the morning and before bed. When troubled i look through those verses and they speak to me, I feel God speak to my present situation each time I read it, it comforts me, restores hope, calms me…..to me its the very word of God and just like David, I’ve written it on my heart so i may not stumble.
Celebration of discipline by Richard Foster: I found this book very interesting for one reason, it put meaning to many of the Christian disciplines I love doing but had never got a chance to read any literature about them. It cleared many myths around fasting, meditation, simplicity and many Christian values that are disregarded by contemporary society today. These disciplines are real, the book gives them value, deeply explains them and their benefits; its one book I intend to keep close to me for quick reference once in a while.
A Woman of Substance by Barbra Taylor Bradford: Emma is impregnated and abandoned by her rich boyfriend at only 15 years old. One would think her life has come to an end; however this is only a turning point; it’s a new door that has opened; one of determination, hard work and self-confidence. Emma overturns her misfortunes into fortunes as she doesn’t let her past determine her future; instead she leaps forward, starts small and builds a retail empire from scratch. The story is true depiction of a woman of substance; one without self-pity, one that sees opportunity in every situation, however bad. It’s a book every young girl needs to read.
Straight Forward Financial Growth by Pastor Moses Mukisa: I read it last month and I must confess it screamed how messy my financial standing was. I was guilty for almost all the bad financial habits highlighted in this book; this prompted me to keep the book near and use it to improve myself financially. I keep refereeing to it and am sure after a year I will be in position to explain how the book has impacted my life. The book gives clear Ugandan examples that I can relate to so am sure following the guidelines therein will not be difficult for me.
Courageous Leadership by Bill Hybels; I read this book 2 months back and one key outstanding notion Bill puts forward is the church being the hope o the world. This was key for me as its my belief as well. I cant help but agree with Bill that it takes a courageous leader to built the church to reflect the Acts 2 church; one that was characterized by love, sharing, togetherness and the holy spirit. The steps therein are real and as a Christina that loves the church, I intend to share this book with my Pastor as I know it can be a good guide for them.
