Never had I imagined I would have to write about Uganda’s health care system; A lot has been written and said about this topic, most of it bad so I wouldn’t want to re-echo same. This time round I will say just a few positive milestones that we’ve moved during this COVID period.
The Ministry of Health response; the ministry under the patronage of Dr. Ruth Aceng has effectively handled the COVID pandemic through constantly sharing information with general public about the pandemic and how to prevent its spread. The team has moved to all populous areas to sensitise people on how to effectively protect themselves from the virus; places such as markets, boarder points of Mutukula and Malaba. Thumbs up MOH!!!

The Human Resources; Our doctors and Nurses have done us proud. I understand they work in tough conditions with limited resources and protective equipment but this has not stopped them from saving lives. Many of them work in fear of contracting Corona virus from patients, it’s a risk they live with on a daily basis, notwithstanding they push on to ensure lives are saved. Hurray to our healthcare providers!!
Caution to Government; As we fight corona virus let’s not forget other health challenges that our people are grappling with. These also still need government attention or else if neglected many people could die. This category has the pregnant mothers who lack transport means to go to hospitals since public and private transport is not allowed, the HIV Aids patient many of whom have food challenges and are also finding it difficult to access hospitals to obtain their regular drugs, malaria, cancer and cholera of late since the whole country is experiencing heavy rains.
To the public out there, lets heed to the Ministry of Health Advice, let’s stay home, practice social distance, no handshakes and hugs, sanitize and wash your hands as often as possible. It’s important that you don’t lose hope, it’s may be hard now but this is only temporary. There’s hope at the end of the tunnel. Stay blessed.
