The joy of removing the first tooth!!!

My 7 year old son has been waiting for his milk teeth to fall out by themselves but its been such a long wait. His milk teeth have been ready for removal but he’s been too afraid to do it. Any attempts from his dad and I to assist shake them have been futile.

Late last year, Lucas sensed that his teeth needed a shake so he chose to keep quiet more and smile less. I quickly got suspicious as a mother and decided to probe further. Lo and behold! You can’t imagine what I found in his mouth.

I found permanent teeth growing right behind the milk teeth that hadn’t been removed. All together four teeth had been affected. I momentarily went into panic as I knew how terrible a disorganized dental fomular can spoil one’s outlook and overall confidence. I resolved not to wait but handle the matter with the seriousness it deserved. I quickly called the family dentist to schedule an appointment.

Meanwhile, on the other hand my son was in tears and when I asked him why; he confessed how he feared dentists. The truth is he had never been to one but based on the stories his elder sister had told him, the experience is one he wanted to avoid.

I did a little convincing as a parent and off we went to the dentist. He did a review and acknowledged that the teeth were a mess and he had no option but extract the milk teeth with his gadgets. Oh my God!!! my son wore the look of ‘the world’s coming to an end’. He cried and became restless. The dentist did a great job comforting him and promised to be as gentle as possible but only required him to be cooperative.

It was a short stay as the teeth fell out with just a slight touch from the dental gadgets. Thereon, Lucas vowed to religiously shake his remaining milk teeth and extract them himself. Under no circumstance did he want to return to the dentist to extract his teeth.

This determination finally paid off two weeks back. He’s been shaking his front tooth with a lot of commitment. I can reliably report that finally the tooth fell out and it was all jubilation in our home. His joy was uncontainable as he jumped and proudly showed the tooth to his siblings, parents and any other person that cared to know.

Lucas shows off the money he got from the tooth fairy in exchange for his milk tooth.

I quickly advised him that he would soon be rich as the tooth fairy was not going to leave such good effort unrewarded. Being the intelligent boy he is (always asking questions in a bid to know more), he challenged me on the tooth fairy myth emphasizing that there was no rat involved, instead its either Mummy or Daddy that removed the tooth and put the money.

I was ashamed by the truth in his argument and recalled how real this whole tooth fairy tale seemed believable back then when I was his age. Was I just timid before my parents so couldn’t challenge them on some these issues? This is a story for another day.

Early the next day, Lucas woke up early to go check where he had hidden his tooth. He did find 3000ugx that had been put in exchange for the tooth. Oh My God!!! The joy and happiness were real. He was a few shillings richer and was even more determined to take out more teeth to get more money.

This whole situation was amazing as he quickly begun planning for his kamoney……while also checking his dental for possibly shaky milk teeth that would earn him more money. Very interesting……it actually reminded me of Straight Forward Financial Growth…….. …… its never bad to start early.
